2023 Farm Crew
Star Light Gardens is a four season organic vegetable and cut flower market garden. We are currently hiring people seeking both full time and part time work.
Ideal applicants are passionate about healthy food and interested in expanding their knowledge of small scale, intensive, four season organic farming. Applicants must be ready and willing to get their hands dirty in any weather condition. We strive to create a working environment that is safe, healthy, inclusive and fair. Crew members will be open-minded, flexible, work well with others and solo. We promise to offer a worthwhile farming experience where you can expect to learn about all aspects of organic market gardening. This includes but is not limited to; seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, field work, and market preparation. Applicants should be prepared for heavy lifting, extending amounts of time on their feet and crouched over on their hands and knees.
Start and end dates can be flexible to accommodate students and other jobs but an end of year bonus will be rewarded to employees who work April- October. At the beginning of the season shifts are 8 – 4 pm, and when the summer heat comes we will likely implement 6:30 am to 2 pm shifts to avoid the hottest parts of the day.
Full time
- Minimum of four 8 hour days per week
- Starting at $16- $17/ hr depending on experience (more for the right applicant)
- Paid half hour lunch breaks
- 2 paid personal/sick days
- 5 unpaid vacation days
Part time
- Minimum of one 8 hour day per week
- Starting at $15/ hr in anticipation of min. wage increase in June.
- Paid half hour lunch breaks
- Sick and vacation days possible depending on the number of working days per week.
An additional perk to the job is free food. Extra produce or flowers from the markets or excess from harvest are free for employees. Any produce or flowers that might otherwise be sold will be 30% off. We encourage conversations, listening to music or podcast, laughing, and feedback. We discourage excessive cell phone use and smoking or vaping. We provide access to clean drinking water and encourage water/shade breaks as needed.
